ABOUT THE BOAT

Charter skipper Kevin McKie’s boat Size Matters is a 45ft Guimond, and is the only one of its kind in the UK.

With lots of deck space, it can accommodate up to 12 anglers in comfort; some anglers have been known to bring deckchairs with them.

Size Matters operates from two ports – Plymouth from April to October, targeting big sharks, conger eels, cod, ling and pollack, and then from Liverpool during October to March, seeking cod, rays, whiting and dabs.

The vessel was owned and skippered by Graham Hannaford from 2001, and in March 2016, Kevin purchased it when Graham retired.

Kevin had some big boots to fill if he was going to make it on the South Coast as a respected charter skipper. Over the next six months, he went on to help his anglers catch some cracking fish. These included blue sharks to more than 130lb, conger to 86lb, ling to 34lb, pollack to 18lb, and cod to 17lb.

In October 2016, Kevin took Size Matters to Liverpool for the winter season. Already this year he has had his anglers catching more than 50 cod a day to 15lb 8oz, and more than 50 rays a day to 13lb 5oz, only 400 yards from shore.

ABOUT THE SKIPPER

Kevin has been fishing all his life, owning his first boat when he was 17, and he’s travelled and fished all over the world; he is also a guide for Sportquest holidays.

Size Matters will start its charter season from Plymouth in April.
