CHANNEL WRECKS HOT FOR POLLACK

-

Two angling newcomers had a superb charter boat-fishing session topped off by a stunning 24lb pollack.

Venkatash Nathan Sankaran and his brother-in-law Sneh Kensara, who live in Portsmouth, Hants, were fishing on March 15 from the local charter Oberon, skippered by Ray McLaren.

Nathan, who caught his first fish and struggled to bring it up, watched as, at the same time, his brother-in–law hooked a big one.

“He took his time and when we all saw his first catch, we were delighted. Ray said it was probably the biggest pollack he will ever catch; it was over 24lb,” said Nathan.

Jeff le Gallez, from St Martin, Guernsey, caught the biggest pollack during a charter session, thanks to this specimen fish of 21lb. The specimen took a Savage lure fished over a wreck off Guernsey’s west coast on an 8lb-class Deep Blue rod, while fishing aboard local charter boat Out The Blue, skippered by Richard Seager. Jeff was among eight anglers on the trip, who enjoyed some non-stop action with many fish into double figures.

A first visit of the year to the English Channel wrecks produced a 17lb 4oz pollack for Jamie Hayes. The angler, from Eastleigh, Hants, caught it on the first drift of the session aboard Silver Spray II, skippered by Sam Cumming, out of Poole, Dorset. There was also a 16lb 4oz fish for Steve Cantwell, on the same charter boat.

Barry Trevett caught plenty of pollack, the best 16lb 10oz, during an inshore boat trip in Lyme Bay, Dorset.

Mike Hansell bagged a 15Ib 11oz pollack, caught on board Amaretto IV, out of Lyme Regis, Dorset. This fish also won Mike, of Rousdon, Devon, the Lyme Regis SAC pollack competition held on March 12. Amaretto IV, skippered by Steve Sweet, also took second place with a 12Ib 15oz fish for Barry Moore.
