SAD LOSS TO ANGLING
Club leads tributes to former NFSA chief, David Rowe
David Rowe, one of angling’s key administrators, who served the former National Federation of Sea Anglers with distinction, has died.
Even after he retired, David remained involved in club angling and was passionate about maintaining sustainable fisheries and a rich marine environment.
After a short fight with cancer, David passed away on April 19. Nigel Drew, of Teignmouth SAS, said: “He will be greatly missed by all at the club and those who met him during his NFSA days.”
David had a long association with Sea Angler in his role as an angling administrator, not least through his work with the British Record (Rod-caught) Fish Committee.
His work in angling administration really blossomed when he became a member of the NFSA Wyvern Region and the national governing body of the NFSA, appointed as its chairman in 1986. He retired in 1998 as general secretary of the NFSA and became the first Sports Council Development Officer for the Sport.
In 2005, he was appointed vice-president of angling’s world governing body CIPS with its sea section FIPS-M. He was a founder member of the European Angling Alliance. David retired in 2009 at the age of 67 as the CEO of the NFSA when the three governing bodies became the Angling Trust.
His funeral took place on May 4.
