FIRST COMMON SKATE FOR LUCE BAY

-

This is thought to be the first common skate boated by an angler in Luce Bay, Dumfries and Galloway.

Amazingly, the 196lb monster was taken on 6lb-class tackle with a mackerel flapper bait meant for tope. It was caught by Bradley Burrett from Drummore.

Bradley, who is 19 and the youngest son of charter skipper Ian Burrett, was fishing on his dad’s boat On Yer Marks.

“It is the first skate that my dad has heard of in Luce Bay, so a very special fish,” said Bradley.

It’s thought the fish is from those normally found off Northern Ireland.

Having crewed for his dad for the past two summers, Bradley hopes to skipper his own boat.
