LATEST MATCHES EAST ANGLIAN TEAMS OF FIVE & OPEN ShingleStr­eetandEast­Lane,Suffolk,63anglers

Six fish for 360 points, worth 7-8-0, secured top spot for Kevin Eley, fishing for the Bennett’s Roofing team, at peg 37 in zone C.

Second was Ian Bowell, Breakaway, at peg 56 in zone D, with one ray for 350pts (7-4-11), with Robert Austin, World of Fish, catching four fish for 270pts (5-10-0) at peg 64 in zone E to take third place.

NORTH NORFOLK NATIONAL SEA LEAGUE RND 4 & OPEN, Salthouse, Norfolk, 31 anglers

A good lump on the sea with a stiff northerly wind did not encourage the fish to show for some but a few quality specimens were recorded including a codling..

The top three all came from zone A, where Mike Watts, of North Norfolk Lads, won the match from peg 1 with eight fish (three bass, three whiting and a dogfish) for 226 points, worth 4-11-0. His last cast 35cm bass made all the difference.

Second was Adrian Bordianu, of Team Manik, with six fish (three whiting, a dogfish, bass and rockling) for 209pts and 4-6-0 from peg 4. Adrian’s 60cm dogfish (1lb 12oz) was the event’s heaviest fish. In third was Mike Topping, fishing for Gorleston Tackle, who from peg 3 caught six fish (three bass and three whiting) for 169pts worth 3-8-0.

In the league event, the day’s winners were Team Manik.

PRINCES PARADE OPEN Hythe, Kent, 23 anglers

A mixed bag of 18 fish, consisting of a 37cm bass, along with dabs, dogfish and whiting, for 399 points earned first place for Saul Page, of Deal, with Nathan Elliott, of Dover, taking second with 12 fish for 372 points.

SANDWICH BAY OPEN Deal, Kent, 24 anglers

Winner of the £200 first prize was England internatio­nal Saul Page, from Deal, who, from peg 27, caught 14 whiting and six dogfish for 559 points.

Runner-up in the match fished low water up was Nathan Elliott, from Dover, with 21 fish, consisting of three dogfish and a mixture of whiting, dabs and pouting. Third went to Ben Arnold, of Worthing, with nine whiting and four dogfish for 390 points.

■ Result: 1 Saul Page, Deal, 20 fish, 559pts (2pts); 2 Nathan Elliott, Dover, 21, 485 (1); 3 Ben Arnold, Worthing, 13 fish, 390.

SAMALITE CHESIL LEAGUE RND 7 & OPEN Abbotsbury, Dorset, 33 anglers

While it was great to be back on the beach after lockdown restrictio­ns were eased to allow match fishing, the angling proved a struggle with 24 of the 33 anglers catching sizeable fish.

With fishing from 7pm until midnight, the competitor­s caught dogfish, smoothhoun­ds, whiting, plaice, pouting, conger eels, soles and grey gurnards.

Winner was Ben Bradstock, of Honiton, with a 2lb 1oz smoothhoun­d and four dogfish for 7-10-0 from zone A. Second went to Russ Preston, of Bristol, who was in the same zone where he caught three dogfish, three pouting and a plaice for 6-3-8. Third went to zone A winner James Lane, of Weymouth, with four dogfish, the best being the event’s heaviest fish of 2lb 1oz 8dr, for a 5-13-8 total.

Half an ounce behind was Ian Dancey with four dogfish for 5-13-0, followed by James Madson with a similar catch for 5-12-0.

■ Result: 1 Ben Bradstock, Honiton 5 fish, 7-10-0 (3pts); 2 Russ Preston, Bristol 7, 6-3-8 (2); 3 James Lane, Weymouth, 4, 5-13-8 (1).

SAMALITE CHESIL LEAGUE RND 8 & OPEN West Bexington, Dorset, 33 anglers

In the last round of this disrupted 2020 match series, 20 of the competitor­s weighed in a total of 44 plaice and six grey gurnards.

Zone B produced the top three. Winner was Jacob Culver with five plaice for 4-1-2, including the event’s heaviest fish of 1lb 15oz. Second was Jason Brown with six for 4-7-0 and Anthony Davies with five for 4-4-8.

Zone A winner was Mike Taylor with three plaice for 2-6-0.

■ Result: 1 Jacob Culver, Bridport, 5 fish, 4-12-0, including heaviest fish, 1-15-0 plaice (3); 2 Jason Brown, Bridgwater, 6, 4-7-0 (2); 3 Anthony Davies, Southampto­n, 5, 4-4-8 (1).
