On the Oregon trail

THIS year sees the 175th anniversary of the Historic Oregon Trail, the famous wagon route spanning 2,170 miles that saw the largest migration in U.S. history.

Several events are scheduled at various locations throughout 2018.

The film PaintY our Wagon, which starred Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin and was filmed just outside Baker City in the Wallowa Mountains, is also celebrating its 50th anniversary.

The mountains are one of the seven Wonders of Oregon, which also include Columbia River Gorge, Crater Lake, Mt Hood, Painted Hills, Oregon Coast and Smith Rock.
