Plymouth gets ready for 2020
PLYMOUTH, Massachusetts, is already gearing up for a year of celebrations in 2020.
The year will mark the 400th anniversary of the landing of the Pilgrims, aboard the
Mayflower, and a calendar of events that will appeal to international visitors is taking shape, said Michele Pecoraro, Executive Director of Plymouth 400.
“We will be telling all sides of the story – not just that of the Pilgrims – and really hope to move the needle on how the story of the Native Americans of that period is told.”
Plymouth 400 has developed a special 400th anniversary tour itinerary, that it discussed with UK operators at DNE. It starts in Boston and ends in Provincetown, Cape Cod, taking in key historical sites.
Meanwhile, just three miles from Plymouth is Plimouth Plantation, a ‘ living’ historical village that has recreated the ‘English Village’ of those early settlers. Also on site is a separate homestead that tells the story of the Native Wampanoag Indians.
