-

G Adventures has announced its first five tours as part of an initiative to help improve the environment and the lives of local people in the destinations it operates in.

The new tours have been created together with non-profit partner, Planeterra, as part of the ‘Project 100’ community tourism initiative which aims to offer 100 projects by the end of 2020.

Included in the portfolio is the Dgae Qare San Lodge project in Botswana on the

Delta and Falls: Westbound trip. It’s priced from £849pp and travels from Victoria

Falls to Windhoek, Namibia. The scheme will connect the lodge with a steady stream of travellers from G Adventures, ensuring regular revenue for the lodge and its employees, as well as funding for community projects.

The Reef Ecologic project in Whitsundays Australia will help to integrate reef restoration programmes into tourism experiences and sponsor the development of a new coral garden where travellers can snorkel. The Queensland: Sand & Sailing trip is priced from £1,549pp and travels from Brisbane to Cairns.

Also included is The Highlights of Madagascar trip which will see visitors plant trees during their visit to the ‘green corridor’ next to Isalo National Park and learn about the reforestation project.

The 14-day trip will also support a water conservation programme and is priced from £1,699pp.

Clients can also support Libaran Island off Borneo, Malaysia via the development of a new community micro-enterprise tour, or culturally immerse themselves in a Mesilou Home Stay in Borneo.

Bruce Poon Tip, Founder of G Adventures said: “It’s our goal for 90% of G Adventures’ small-group trips to visit a community tourism project that supports women, children and indigenous culture. We’re also looking at projects that empower local communities to protect their local environment.” gadventures.com
