“Our People, Places & Planet plan has improved over 5,000 lives”
Kasia Morgan, Head of Sustainability and Community, Exodus Travels
We designed our first sustainability strategy (our People, Places & Planet plan) to improve life through travel. It focuses on community empowerment, carbon management, biodiversity regeneration and waste reduction.
Since implementing the strategy at the end of 2019, our findings show that Exodus has helped to improve 5,445 lives in hardto-reach places, including female porters trained as mountain guides, education for children, emergency food parcels and more. Local nature conservation and restoration initiatives are supported across 65% of trips.
Sustaining sustainability
Our headline goal for our 2025 strategy is to become Nature Net Positive by 2024.
This commitment will help to ensure our adventures give back more than they take by outweighing any negative impacts on our natural world with proactive support for biodiversity conservation and regeneration, through our trips and our Foundation.
We’ll also be eliminating all directly provided single-use plastics on trips by the end of 2022; halving our carbon footprint per passenger by 2030; and continuing to rewild 100 sq ms per passenger. One of the most exciting goals is a scheme through which clients can take eDNA samples to contribute towards building the IUCN’s eBioAtlas (a global record of life in the world’s river basins and wetlands).
Our advice for other companies who want to take similar action is find your focus. Ask which areas are most important for the long term sustainability of your business, which are most important for your clients, and which are most urgent for our world?
