Club: Utility Gundog Society (Eastern Counties branch) Event: Open sugar beet test

Venue: Loose Hall Farms

Judges: Tom Lowe and Arthur Cook

Sponsors: Dog & Field and Skinner’s Report by: Julia Reed We are indebted to Kevin Easey for stepping up when the original venue’s sugar beet hadn’t grown sufficiently because of the lack of rain. Twenty-two dogs ran in reasonable conditions. Ground scent wasn’t brilliant but a good breeze helped the dogs.

The morning consisted of long marks, two in front for the first round, one right off the end of the line for the second round and a very long mark for the last retrieve of the morning. After lunch it had warmed up a bit and the competitors were kept in the shade, going in one at a time under each judge for a blind and a mark (Arthur) and two blinds in stubble (Tom). Judges and winners, from left: Tom Lowe, Arthur Cook, Jo from Dog & Field, Jo Rollinson, Brian Chesser, Jim Collins, Julia Reed and Keith Foster.
