ECO-FRIENDLY

Tom Payne is absolutely spot on (Fibre wads? It’s a no-brainer, 2 January). We who engage in fieldsports rightly talk a great deal about the benefits that shooting brings to the British countryside, the rural community and our health and well-being, including conservation. Yet there are areas where we can do more and plastic wads is one of those areas, as is plastic cartridge recycling. BASC accepts it will take time to adapt and provide effective, safe and eco-friendly alternatives, but I would urge every shooter to switch to fibre wads if you can.

BASC is looking to partner with UK cartridge manufacturers and the leading recycling company to further develop eco-friendly cartridges and to increase recycling. I believe we have a responsibility to do everything possible to protect our sport and livelihoods for our grandchildren and their grandchildren.
