Ammo for my rimfire
I have a Remington 597 semiautomatic rimfire that I use on rabbits. Will the new CCI Suppressor ammunition be suitable for my purposes?
The CCI Suppressor cartridge uses a heavier 45-gr bullet than the normal 40-gr oe used in most .22 rimfires. It has a lead hollowpoint that is designed to work well in semi-automatic rimfires. That small amount of extra weight gives a big advantage to momentum so the inertia recoil-operated semi-automatic rimfire will fire sweetly and reliably.
The cartridge has a velocity of 970fps, so it’s very subsonic in any temperature, and the hollowpoint is the same as the normal CCI
Subsonic ammunition.
I tested it in a Ruger 10/22 semiautomatic and achieved a velocity of 941fps and 89ft/lb energy. The bullet expanded to 0.369in from 0.223in, with a penetration of 7in in the ballistic media.
Accuracy was good for a semiautomatic at 30 yards, achieving five shot groups of 0.45in. At 50 yards, all shots were well under an inch.
Just as important was the reliable feeding and ejection, which is the issue with subsonic cartridges in a semi-automatic. I would recommend them for your Remington 579 rifle. BP
