Botswana restarts trophy hunting
Trophy hunting operations have restarted in Botswana after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the abandonment of last season’s licensed cull. This year, licences have been issued to kill 287 elephants out of an estimated population of 130,000.
Botswana reintroduced elephant trophy hunting in 2019 after a fiveyear ban. The decision has proved controversial, with passionate campaigns being launched both for and against the practice.
