Rural groups: Scots deer welfare is key

Fieldsports and rural organisations have called on the Scottish government to ensure the country’s deer are properly treated. The open letter came after the government announced significant changes to the law on deer, including the removal of the close season for males. In the letter, BASC, the British Deer Society, the Countryside Alliance, NFU Scotland, the Scottish Gamekeepers Association, Scottish Land & Estates and Scottish Venison demanded that politicians respect the welfare of deer, the positive benefit of deer to the Scottish economy and support the rural workforce.
