To do this week
Arrange to take youngsters beating. Beating is a great way for young people to gain a rounded experience of shooting life, as well as to get some exercise. Speak to keepers to see if there are shoots where you can take your children along. Remember: good boots and waterproofs and a pocketful of sweets can make the difference between a thoroughly miserable experience and a fun day out.
Shoot pigeons on stubbles. In many areas, the July heatwave means harvests that would normally be beginning now are already over. Don’t miss the opportunities presented by grain and seed-rich fresh stubbles. Strategic control of pigeons to prevent damage when new crops are sown is still allowed under the general licence and is a valuable service to farmers.
