Setting up a rifle range

- RIFLES

I’d like to set up a temporary range in order to zero and practise with my rifles. Are there any regulations around doing this?

If your firearm certificate has an ‘open’ condition for shooting over land, then you may zero on any ground where you have permission.

The responsibility for the safety of your shots will be down to you alone and you must make absolutely certain that there is a safe backstop behind your target, in exactly the same way that you must when you are stalking deer or shooting rabbits with a rimfire.

If there is a possibility other people without an ‘open’ condition might use your range, you must ensure the land is approved by the police for the class of rifle they are using. Discuss it with the landowner and, if you are going to use the range regularly, ensure that it is sufficiently secluded and remote to avoid inconveniencing others. GD
