ROEBUCKS IN FIFE

-

Steven Wade manages 8,000 hectares of land and forestry, scattered across Fife and Tayside. These areas are only lightly stalked, for four weeks in May and three weeks at the end of July into early August.

On these outings, they select mature bucks and less promising youngsters, with around 50 bucks taken per year. Around 20% to 25% of beasts will be measured as medal trophies, according to CIC rules. In addition, between 60

specimen is fantastic. It is the roe rut at its most thrilling.

The trip to Fife ended with two excellent bucks, estimated for bronze and silver medals. In addition, Palle and Christian managed three nice sixpointers and a handful of cull bucks.

However, the experience was not quite what the pair had hoped for. The heat was less than helpful for proper rutting activity. As the pair enjoy breakfast, with freshly harvested chanterelle mushrooms, plans for next year’s rut are afoot.

They don’t yet know when they will return to Fife, but they certainly will — and with good reason, too.
