Ammo advice for DSC1

- STALKING

I am working up to taking my Level 1 Deer Stalking Certificate (DSC1) and was interested in the question referring to how many rounds you should carry. It seems the correct answer is around eight to 10, which seems a lot. Is this the recommendation? My magazine holds three, which is surely sufficient.

In most circumstances your full mag will be sufficient, but you should cater for the unforeseen. You may fire a couple of shots that morning and possibly wound a deer, so you must have sufficient ammunition with you to be able to deal with that.

Also, you may need to re-zero a rifle after a fall or if you drop it. If you have sufficient spares this can be done in the field and you can continue your stalk, rather than having to abandon it. CD
