Row in South Africa over king’s lion hunt
South Africa’s governing ANC has rejected criticism from animal rights activists over a lion hunt by a Zulu royal. King Misuzulu kazwelithini shot a three-year-old male lion as part of the Ukungena Esibayeni (entering the kraal) ritual. The skin will be used to make part of the king’s ceremonial garment. An ANC statement said: “Our constitution was designed specifically to protect all cultures and customs practised by our people.”
