2022 Lady Scott Rose Award
The Gamekeepers’ Welfare Trust’s (GWT) Lady Scott Rose Award 2022 was presented to Lorry Roberts at the Welsh Game Fair in Bangor earlier this month by founding trustee Mike Swan.
The Lady Scott Rose Award is presented to the wives or partners of gamekeepers who carry out a vital supporting role on estates and shoots.
Mrs Roberts has been married to John, headkeeper at Lake Vyrnwy in Powys, for 26 years and has helped out with everything from admin to pen building. She was kept in the dark about the award and didn’t even know her husband had nominated her. However, she claims she “knew he was up to something”.
GWT chief executive Helen Benson said: “Lorry exemplifies the fantastic role of the wives and partners in the gamekeeping profession. We were thrilled to present this award to such a lovely lady, who is adored by her whole family.”
Among those welcoming Lorry’s award was her friend Liz Simms, a gundog handler, who said: “Well done, Lorry — a richly deserved award.”
