JAMES PURDEY & SONS

-

James Purdey & Sons diverted from its leather labels, which had predominated since 1921, and reverted to a buffcoloured paper-and-ink label in 1986. The illustration is by Graham Rust and features a sportsman in quilted jacket and breeks with gun, dog and birds, an oak tree and foliage surround the company name and it bears three Royal Warrants: those of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, HM The Queen and HRH The Prince of Wales, now King

Charles III. This label was short lived, being used only until 1991, when it was replaced with a leather label virtually identical to the one Purdey used from 1981 to 1986. DH
