Hand-loading benefits
Is hand-loaded ammunition much more accurate than factory-made bullets and should I load my own ammunition if I want to start PRS competitions?
That rather depends on how good your hand-loads are. Factory ammunition is extremely good quality these days and factory match-grade bullets can be amazingly accurate, if your rifle likes them.
The beauty of hand-loading is that you can tailor your ammunition to get the best from your rifle without compromise, while saving on the cost of factory ammunition. It’s also easier to buy components in bulk to help with supply issues of ammunition, which seems to be a problem.
You may also find consistency can vary a little with factory bullets, whereas home-loading should, in theory, be very consistent. Many shooters also take a great deal of satisfaction from ‘rolling their own’. Reloading can become a pastime all of its own, or at least a chance to do something shooting related when you can’t actually get out shooting. MR
