I recently listened with interest when I heard a story about antis causing trouble for Cornwall Council. The issue stemmed from a new street sign bearing the name ‘Tally

Ho’, perhaps unsurprisi­ng given the region’s strong hunting connection­s. The antis thought the name inappropri­ate and have raised the issue with the council, as they feel any reference to hunting or fieldsport­s to be in poor taste.

Given that the furore all blew up around 15 September, which has long been honoured as Battle of Britain Day, I felt that the antis’ complaint was perhaps taken rather too literally. Many fighter squadrons famously employed the ‘tally-ho’
