How do I see bullet impacts?

- ON THE RANGE

What’s the best way to spot long-range shots when shooting steel targets? I often struggle to see the bullet impacts.

If you’re struggling to see your shots land, this could be due to recoil from the rifle causing you to lose your sight picture.

A good solid rest, a rear bag and bipod and also fitting a moderator or muzzle brake, if you don’t have one, would be recommended.

You could also try reducing the scope’s magnification to give a wider field of view. Another option would be, of course, to have a friend observe the shots and act as a spotter for you.

Should this not be possible, then an excellent alternative would be to purchase a small compact camcorder with a high zoom capability and set it up on a small tripod next to you.

You can then film each shot then play it back to see exactly where your shot landed along with the wind conditions the moment you squeezed the trigger. MR
