ROE COVER-UP?
I sent, and you received, the following letter by email on 2 September 2022. I’m not sure why you chose not to publish it. Surely the function of Shooting Times is to accurately inform your readership?
Your expert Iain Watson’s response to the question of ‘extremely late pregnancy’
(Sporting answers, 31 August), is biologically incorrect. The roe deer is monoestrous; it has only one cycle a year and, unlike the red and sika deer, does not keep coming into season.
A possible explanation is the phenomenon of delayed implantation, which together with their monoestrous cycle, is a feature of the roe deer.
