American hunter shoots himself in leg

An American elk hunter has shot himself while fighting off a grizzly bear. Lee Francis was hunting with his son in western Wyoming when the bear rushed him. Mr Francis drew a handgun and fired at the bear as it knocked him to the ground, but in the struggle he shot himself in the leg.

The bear retreated and Mr Francis’s son loaded him on to a mule and transported him to an area where a rescue helicopter was able to land and take him to hospital. A full recovery is expected.
