One leg off the ground

- GUNDOGS

My labrador has developed a habit of lifting one front leg up when I am about to throw a dummy. Do most gundogs do this and is it an issue?

Lots of gundogs do this. It is normally an indication that the dog is ‘ready’ and is getting prepared to go. All of mine tend to lift their front legs just as I line them up ready to go. Obviously HPR breeds do it naturally to indicate they have found game and are ready to flush. It is not an issue at all as long as it is not followed by them running in. The only other time I find it undesirable is when a dog refuses to go into cover but instead points from the outside. Fortunately, this isn’t too common. ES
