HOLLAND & HOLLAND

-

The paper and ink label from Holland & Holland boasts three Royal Warrants — those of the Prince of Wales (POW), the King of Portugal and the King of Italy.

It is an uncommon label and does not appear in the record of label styles used by the firm in Donald Dallas’s book. It likely dates from the 1900–1902 period. The reference to the Grand Prix of Paris in 1900 is mentioned on another label of the same period, though that does not mention the Royal Warrant for either the

POW or the King of Portugal. The POW mentioned was later King George V, so the label must predate his ascension to the throne in May 1910. DH
