Short airgun barrel tips

- AIRGUNNING

I have been offered what seems to be a very good deal on an airgun that has quite a short barrel. While I like the thought of having a compact airgun, I am worried that the short barrel will affect accuracy. Is this something I should be concerned about?

Airgun barrels can become very short before there is any significant impact on accuracy, and you can always check that the gun you plan to buy is working as it should by having a few shots with it before you part with your money.

Shorter barrels do tend to be less efficient, though. This means it takes more air to get them up to full power, and that can mean less shots per fill if you’re using a PCP.

If, on the other hand, the airgun you are thinking about buying is powered by a spring or gas-ram, have a go with it to make sure the cocking effort is not too much of a strain. A shorter barrel means less leverage, and that can make for a gun that is laborious to cock. MM
