NOTES

Use a 1cm (!⁄"in) seam allowance.

CUTTING OUT

Step one Draw a 17cm (6¾in) diameter circle onto a piece of paper and cut it out to use as a template for your pot base.

Step two From the main fabric, the lining fabric and the wadding, cut out the following pieces: Base: Cut out using the template.

Body: 19x50cm (7½x19¾in).

MAKING THE OUTER BODY

Step one Fold the main fabric body piece in half widthways with right sides (RS) together, matching short edges. Stitch together.

Step two Fold the main fabric base in half then half again and press. Mark these quarter marks with pins then open it up.

Step three Mark the quarter marks around the bottom of the joined body in the same way.

Step four Pin the body fabric to the base RS together, matching the quarter marks pins then pinning them between them to ease the circle. Step five Stitch the base to the body then clip the seam allowance of the body to help it lie flat, but taking care not to snip the stitching.

MAKING THE LINING

Step one Tack the body wadding to the wrong side (WS) of the body lining. Repeat to tack the base wadding to the WS of the base lining. Step two Fold and then stitch the short edges of the lining RS together in the same way as for the outer, but this time leaving an 8cm (3in) gap in the centre of the seam for turning later. Step three Mark quarter marks and pin the lining body to the lining base with lining sides RS together then stitch in the same way as you did for the outer.

JOINING THE BODY TO THE LINING

Step one Place the lining and wadding piece inside the outer so that the RS of the lining is facing the RS of the outer, matching raw edges and the side seams.

Step two Pin together all the way around the top edge then stitch together.

Step three Turn RS out through the gap in the lining then slip stitch the gap closed.

FINISHING OFF

Step one Push the lining inside the outer and then topstitch around the top edge to neaten and decorate.

Step two Turn the top edge over to make a cuff and reveal the lining fabric. Now pop your plant inside and disply it on your dining table as a living centrepiece.
