SPEEDY SEW
A lot of sewists I know spend most of their garment-making time on the sewing process, but I am the complete opposite. I spend a very large amount of time moving, rotating, pinning, and cutting out fabric. With that stage out of the way, the dress was stitched in just under two hours. I recommend reading the instructions beforehand as that helped me to speed up the process. Next time, I will have the Odette pattern sewing video tutorial on my device which I can always pause or rewind whilst sewing. With the sleeves and darts on the bodice complete, the rest of the dress was a breeze. I found pressing the seams, darts, and pleats in batches useful as there were quite a few of them.
TOP TIPS
Something to check during the stitching process is the placement and crossover of the front mock-wrap bodice. I wore the bodice with the centre back pinned together before sewoverit.com
This versatile jersey wrap dress from Sew Over It features a wrap front, gathered shoulders, and a waist tie. Available in UK sizes 6-20. crossing over the front sections to determine at what point they would overlap. I made a mark which helped when joining the bodice to the skirt.
NEXT TIME
My Odette dress will become a true wardrobe staple which will be worn well into the autumn months, and I intend to make two more versions: a shorter one with a brighter fabric for my upcoming family holiday and another using African wax fabric. I look forward to seeing how the mock-wrap design and circle skirt would look in a much-more structured fabric!
