MAKING THE DOLL BODY

-

Step one Pin a pair of Arm pieces right side (RS) together. Sew, leaving a turning gap in the side as marked. Trim the seams and cut notches, especially in between the thumb and rest of the hand, to ease the seam. Turn RS out through the opening in the side. Turn the raw edges of the opening under and press flat with an iron.

Step two Repeat for the second arm. Leave unstuffed for now.

Step three Pin and sew one Shoe piece to one Leg piece, RS facing. Repeat to sew the opposite Shoe and Leg side. Pin the completed pieces RS together. Match up the seams where the Leg meets the Shoe. Sew. Turn RS out through the side opening. Turn the raw edges of the opening under and press flat with an iron. Make the second Leg in the same way. Leave both

legs unstuffed and the openings unsewn.

Step four Sew each Head piece to a Body piece, RS facing, between points A to B. Press the seams open.

Step five Tack the Arms in position where marked, on the RS of one Body side, facing in. Make sure to have the thumbs oriented the correct way. Then tack the Legs in position, one on either side of the centre mark, on the RS of

the Body piece, facing in to the body.

Step six Lay the opposite Body side on top, sandwiching the limbs between the layers. Bunch all the limb pieces into a bundle to keep them away from the outer seam you are about to sew. Pin and tack all around, then sew, leaving a turning gap at the top of the Head. Clip notches in the seams and turn the body RS out. Press with an iron.

Step seven Stuff the Arms and Legs. Stuff firmly into the hand and thumb using a small stuffing stick. Stuff the rest of the Arm firmly. With the raw edge of the opening turned under, ladder stitch closed using co-ordinating thread. Stuff the Legs and ladder stitch the openings closed. Step eight Stuff the Body and Head through the opening at the top.

Step nine Turn under the raw edges of the opening in the head and ladder stitch closed.
