The cat­e­gory for any deep-space ob­ject within our Galaxy, cov­er­ing ev­ery­thing from stars to the neb­u­lae that birthed them. 2014 win­ner Bill Sny­der had to take 12.8 hours worth of ex­po­sures to cap­ture the de­tail at the base of the Horse­head Ne­bula that is of­ten left un­seen. While pos­si­bly one of the most dif­fi­cult groups of tar­gets to im­age, gal­ax­ies are among the most beau­ti­ful ob­jects in the night sky. In 2013 Ivan Eder was highly com­mended for his en­try of M81-82 and the In­te­grated Flux Ne­bula.
