2016 gets off to a great start with a 4th-mag­ni­tude comet, C/2013 US10 Catalina, just 40 ar­cmin­utes from the bright or­ange star Arc­turus (Al­pha (_) Boötis) dur­ing the early hours. With this mag. +0.2 star mark­ing the way, the comet should be easy to find.

A 60%-lit wan­ing gib­bous Moon lies 5° east of Jupiter as they are low in the east around 00:00 UT.
