Case study 2: Nightscape at twi­light

Don’t make the mistake that your back­grounds have to be an inky black ex­panse ev­ery time

This im­age of Orion and the bright star Sir­ius was cap­tured dur­ing twi­light mean­ing the back­ground sky in the RAW im­age had a no­tice­able blue colour cast; since it was a nat­u­ral ef­fect, we wanted to pre­serve it dur­ing post-pro­cess­ing rather than try to re­move it. Sim­i­lar blue-white colour casts and gra­di­ents can ap­pear in wide-field im­ages taken when the full, or nearly full, Moon is high in the sky.
