UK SETS SATEL­LITE GOALS

On his first visit to the site where a new space­port is set to be built in Suther­land, Bri­tish Sec­re­tary of State for Busi­ness Greg Clark sug­gested that as many as 2,000 satel­lites could be launched from the UK by 2030. Cur­rently, small satel­lites have to ‘piggy back’ on larger launches, and only 35 per cent of the de­mand for launches is be­ing met. Pick­ing up the slack could gen­er­ate as much as £3.8 bil­lion for the UK econ­omy, ex­perts es­ti­mate.
