STARS AND CONSTELLATIONS
Canis Major might be best known for Sirius, the brightest star in the heavens, but its hindquarters are formed by a remarkable group known as ‘the Virgins’. Arranged in a distorted Mercedes Benz logo shape, Epsilon (¡), Eta (d), Omicron2 (k ) and Delta (b) Canis Majoris (mag. +1.5, +2.4, +3.0 and +1.8 respectively) are four of the most luminous stars known. Omicron2’s faintness is only due to its sheer distance of 3,400 lightyears. The star’s brilliance is actually over 60,000 times that of our Sun!
