Spin­ning black holes, like the one seen as a white blob at the cen­tre RI WKLV ; UD\ LPDJH FDQ UH RXW SRZHUIXO MHWV RI PDWHULDO DV WKH\ de­vour cos­mic mat­ter. Here, some­thing re­mark­able is hap­pen­ing: one such jet has bounced off a wall of gas, punch­ing a hole in a cloud of en­er­getic par­ti­cles be­fore slam­ming into the gas once more. The im­pact ap­pears as a prom­i­nent white spot on the left.
