In older cam­eras with peak ISOs around 3200–6400, use 1600. For mod­ern ones use a set­ting from 3200 to about one-half peak. Pre-fo­cus on a bright star us­ing Live View if avail­able. Use an ex­po­sure sev­eral sec­onds shorter than the value in Step 4 and frame your shot with the hori­zon par­al­lel to the im­age frame.
