To 3D or not 3D

In re­ply to Chris Web­ster (In­ter­ac­tive, July 2019) I’m sorry to say that even the near­est stars are too far away to dis­cern them in 3D. How­ever, with very sen­si­tive pho­to­graphic equip­ment it is pos­si­ble to mea­sure the ex­tremely small shift in par­al­lax ex­hib­ited by nearby stars. It is in­ter­est­ing to note that with binoc­u­lars, ▶

some­times the il­lu­sion of 3D is ex­pe­ri­enced.
