Retained list revealed as Pilgrims gear up for National League
BOSTON United have released four players at the end of their contracts following their promotion to the National League, with most of the squad offered new deals.
Michael Gyasi, Keziah Martin, Ethan Sephton and Sam Smart have all been released, but it is clear that the club want to hold on to the core of players that have secured their passage to the National League.
Jacob Hazel is still under contract, while captain Michael Bostwick and Keaton Ward have had pre-agreed options triggered to keep them at the club for next season.
Deji Sotona has returned to his parent club following his loan spell.
Terms of re-engagement have been offered to U24 players Dylan Hill, Jimmy Knowles, Tom Leak and Jai Rowe, while straight-up contract offers have been made to senior players Cameron Gregory, Jake
Lovelace, Zak Mills, Kelsey Mooney, Brad Nicholson, Jordan Richards and Martin Woods.
As is always the case when a club is promoted, improvements will be needed during the summer to ensure the team can compete at a higher level, but retaining the key names that got them to that position is just as important.
Boston will come up against some big clubs in the National League that have been in the EFL recently, such as Southend, Oldham, Rochdale and Hartlepool, so smart recruitment will be important to compete.
The club will also have to look to other factors to try and get the edge over teams next season, with an obvious one being good coaching.
Ian Culverhouse has shown his credentials as a coach, having got the club out of a division they had been marooned in for some time.
