Comfortable watching brief for Blues boss

Burnham FC boss Paul Shone enjoyed a comfortable afternoon watching from the sidelines as the Blues dismantled one of their top four rivals, Brackley Town Saints, 4-1 at The Gore.

Brackley arrived at The Gore above the Blues in the Hellenic Premier Division table, but Shone’s men proved far too strong for them as

Sam Coles, Cameron RohartBrown, Gavin James and Firaz Chniba got their names on the scoresheet.

Afterwards Shone said the side was starting to reap the rewards of having a more settled 16-man squad.

They may look to readdress their ambitions in the summer, but, for now, they’ll be happy to maintain their current form and take the bragging rights from rivals in and around them in the table.

He said: “We knew that if we could match the result that we got at their place – when we won 1-0 – we’d stand a good chance. So 4-1 at home was a very comfortable afternoon for us. It was a dominant display and a good allround performance against a side who were competing for the title last season.

“We worked hard in the first half and made it 1-0.

“Then we blew them away with our play at the start of the second half.

“The only downside is that we let them score a consolation. The boys worked really hard in those extra training sessions we had over Christmas and they were raring to go.

“The boys were chomping at the bit after our Boxing Day clash was postponed.”

The win was good enough to lift Burnham back up to fourth in the table, and was all the more impressive as the side hadn’t played a competitive fixture since their 3-0 home win over Holmer Green on December 21.

Shone said: “We might look to readdress our goals in the summer, but from our point of view top four would be excellent after the start we made.” The Blues are set to visit Brimscombe & Thrupp tomorrow (Saturday).
