Burnham’s fine run is checked by the weather

-

Burnham FC’s post new year momemtum was checked by the weather at the weekend, when their game at Brimscombe & Thrupp was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Paul Shone’s side have been in excellent form in the last few months, despite not playing very many matches.

Last week’s convincing 4-1 win over Brackley Town Saints briefly lifted them into the top four of the Hellenic Premier Division, but they’ve slipped back down to fifth when Brackley bounced back to demolish Holmer Green 7-0 away from home.

Still, they’re handily placed for a top four challenge this season and will be looking to win their fifth league match on the spin when they host Shrivenham at the weekend.

The Blues played just twice over the Christmas and New Year period, in what is usually a hectic time for footballers. But, refreshed following an almost three-week break, they proved too strong for Brackley at The Gore. Gavin James, Firas Chniba, Cameron RohartBrown and Sam Coles were all on target.

Shrivenham should prove tricky opponents tomorrow (Sat). They sit just below the Blues in sixth position but their recent good run of form was checked by a 2-0 defeat to Easington Sports in their last outing.

Burnham follow Saturday’s clash with another home game against Ardley United on

Tuesday night. United haven’t had the best of seasons and currently sit third from bottom on 19 points from 19 games.
