Dunkley hits six off last ball to seal victory
White Waltham seamer Jonny Dunkley smashed a six off the last ball of the game to give his side a thrilling victory away at Aldershot on Saturday.
After losing the toss, White Waltham took to the field to bowl first and made early breakthroughs thanks to fine opening spells from
Jonny Dunkley (2-31) and Luke Beard (2-28). Aldershot dug in on a tricky surface but continued to lose wickets. First change bowler Jordan Thomas (1-16) was economic across his seven overs, before spinners Cloudsley Long (2-35) and
Rahul Mohindru (2-7) joined the attack and maintained the pressure. From 87-6, Aldershot managed to climb to 153 all out thanks to lower order runs from James Ferguson (34) and Kyle Kisko (23).
In reply Waltham got off to a tough start, losing two wickets in two balls in the second over of the innings at the hands of seamer Tom Varney (325). Simon Jessup (47) and Daniel Molloy (24) came together and consolidated, putting on an impressive partnership of 80 to move the visitors closer to their target. Ben Scarborough (20) added important runs and at 112-3, Waltham looked destined for victory before a hectic last 10 overs. Aldershot took regular wickets reducing the away side to 145-8 with just one over to go in the game. Needing nine to win, victory looked unlikely for White Waltham – even more so when Jordan Thomas (15) was stumped with just three balls remaining to leave them six runs short of their target with one wicket to spare.
Threee runs were needed off the last delivery for Waltham but Dunkley (12no) emphatically launched the ball over long-on to seal the points for his side.
