Heath hold on for ‘outstanding’ win
Boss Richardson praises side's efforts
Flackwell Heath boss Marcus Richardson praised his side’s ‘outstanding’ efforts after they secured a narrow victory over Windsor FC on Tuesday night.
Khalid Simmo’s first half strike was all that separated the two sides in a hotly contested local rivalry to hand Flackwell their first three points of the season. Windsor lacked the cutting edge to come away with anything from this tie, and even when their hosts went down to 10 men following Jack Taylor’s dismissal, the Royalists struggled to take advantage.
“The boys were just outstanding,” said Richardson.
“It was a great team performance and we worked hard even after Jack’s sending off. Windsor did get their spell and they started coming into the game but I thought we defended very well. I thought we were a very good unit that was hard to break down.
“We had a few golden chances to score more but we just didn’t capitalise on it at the time.
“But I’m very confident in my squad’s ability and they’ve proven just how strong they can be.
“Windsor were a very well drilled and organised team but we performed very well and managed to overcome them. We got the goal and the win we deserved, but it would’ve been even sweeter if we had got a couple more to show the dominance we had in the game.”
Flackwell now turn their attention to Rushden and Higham United who they play in the FA Vase this Saturday. Windsor play Long Buckby AFC.
W Flackwell Heath’s FA Cup run came to a disappointing end at the weekend after they lost 3-0 to Cirencester Town on home turf.
Boss Marcus Richardson fielded a youthful looking Flackwell side as they kicked off on a warm afternoon at Wilks Park.
Perhaps it was their lack of experience but chances came and went for Flackwell in a lively first half as both sides were unable to break the deadlock and head into half time with an advantage.
But after suppressing some initial pressure from the hosts at the restart, it wasn’t long before the visitors had their noses in front with Jonny Dennis curling a right-footed shot inside the far right post.
Josh Parsons stepped up to score the Centurions’ second from the spot minutes later after Flackwell were deemed to have committed a foul in the box. Cirencester’s workman like performance outshone Flackwell’s spirited efforts and Tommy Anderson wrapped up the afternoon’s scoring with a volley as the game was drawing to a close.
