Sumo wrestler to toss tyre for NHS fund

- IVER:

A sumo wrestling champion from Iver Heath will be tossing a 200kg tyre to raise support for NHS Charities Together.

Mandeep Singh Kundi, also known as ‘Deep’, is the British Novice and English Master’s Heavyweight Sumo Wrestling Champion.

At 12pm on March 10, he will be undertaking the strenuous challenge of flipping a 200kg tyre a distance of 100m.

“Tire flipping is a great whole body exercise that develops our balance, confidence and determination, and our ability to adapt, improvise and overcome real life challenges,” said Deep.

He added that with all the negative effects of digitalisation and the global pandemic, he feels there needs to be more solutions for improving health.

“I find this to be a great way of building strength, stamina, skill, speed and spirit,” he said.

If Deep completes this within a guide time of nine minutes, he will be setting a new world record.

“But in truth, weight, distance and time are all secondary,” said Deep. “The main purpose is to get people mentally and physically moving from being stuck behind technology.

“Our wonderful NHS, like an army at war, is risking so much to fight and protect us on the front line,” he added.

“Many lives have been lost, and many more may follow, but many have and will be saved because of their selfless service.

“It would be wonderful to help them in some small way, hence this humble effort.”

So far £1,000 has been raised in support of Deep’s challenge.
