A headteacher in Slough is calling for coronavirus vaccines to be offered to all support staff to ensure schools can remain open when pupils return from next week.

An NHS update has revealed that Slough is trailing behind its Royal Borough neighbours in terms of how many people have received their first dose of a coronavirus vaccine.

The latest data reveals almost a quarter of the population in Maidenhead and Windsor, 37,278, have been jabbed once.

This includes 7,910 in the most vulnerable over 80 age group; 5,296 aged 75-79 and 6,856 aged 70-74.

A further 17,216 people under 70 have been vaccinated in the borough.

The local authority had a population of 151,422 in 2019 according to figures from the Office for National Statistics.

In Slough, NHS figures show the town is trailing behind the Royal Borough in terms of the percentage of the population it has vaccinated.

Data released on Thursday, February 25 shows 25,484 people have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

This amounts to 17 per cent of the town’s 149,539 population, according to figures from the Office of National Statistics in 2019.

The breakdown of vaccinations in Slough includes 3,565 aged over 80; 2,244 aged 75-79 and 3,382 aged 70-74.

A further 16,293 people have been jabbed once in the below 70 age group.

Councillor Natasa Pantelic, cabinet member for health and wellbeing at Slough Borough Council, said the vaccination programme is continuing to progress well in the town and thanked all those involved in the rollout.

She told the Express: “People who have attended vaccination sites have been very complimentary about both the medical staff and the wonderful volunteers who have been on hand throughout.

“A massive thank you to our local CCG colleagues and for the

One Slough partnership for managing to organise so many people and to the residents of Slough who have been so willing to have their vaccine and share their positive experiences with us.”
