Confidence key to Blues’ fight back

Hosts recover from two goals down to beat lofty rivals

-

Confidence was key for Burnham in their game with North Greenford United at the weekend, according to assistant manager Kavi Luchowa, as the Blues came back from two goals down inside 10 minutes to win 5-4 at The 1878 Stadium.

After a blistering opening by the second placed visitors, in which they scored in the second and 10th minute, the home side were able to get into the break on level terms thanks to goals from Nasar Bakare and Leo Decabo.

A back-and-forth second half was to come next as North Greenford retook the lead before Matteo Espirito made the score 3-3. Then, Decabo bagged another goal to put Burnham in the driving seat before it was 4-4 moments later.

But Jayden Moore – the man who was the bane of NorthGreenford's existence the last time the sides met – had the final say in this encounter, earning his side their second victory under Ben Murray in the Combined Counties Premier Division North.

Speaking to the club’s media after the game, in the absence of boss Murray, Luchowa said: “We started quite slow to be honest – we were 2-0 down after 10 minutes. They had the upper foot, but we grew into it and had a little bit of a shape change.

“The boys suddenly became a little bit more confident. To be honest with you, as much as we did change tactics, it was just the boys waking up a little bit and realising they’re a very good footballing side. Suddenly, they started playing and that was the big change really.

“They realised ‘we could do this here’ and we were able to play against a team that are second in the league. They never gave up, they kept going. We’ve got to stop conceding goals but when they fight like that, it’s unbelievable to see.

“As a team, we were unbelievable. You could see it at the end when we got the winning goal. All the subs are up, everyone is celebrating. It was a team performance, 100% today. I thought the midfield were fantastic but the whole team were spot on today.”

Luchowa added: “Going forward for the next few games? We will kick on from here and like we seem to say every game, tighten up that defence and stop conceding goals.

“When we’ve got the ball, there’s no doubt we’re going to score. We’ve got exciting players so we’re definitely a team to come down and watch.”
