Employability service opens in Slough to help people find sustainable jobs

People looking for work in Slough are being given a helping hand after the opening of a new employability service in the town.

Not-for-profit organisation Fedcap Employment is delivering the UK Government’s new Restart scheme to help people pick up the skills they need for the modern workplace and find suitable, sustainable jobs.

Slough MP Tan Dhesi cut a ribbon to officially open Fedcap Employment’s new office in the Switch building in The Grove.

During the visit, Mr Dhesi, local partners and employers were given an insight into how Fedcap Employment has been delivering the Restart scheme, which helps people who have been out of work for nine months or longer with tailored support.

The organisation’s frontline team are on hand to help with everything from updating CVs to tackling health concerns, and from helping customers to impress at interviews to launching new start-up businesses.

The 22-strong team in Slough is working with some of the region’s leading employers, including SEGRO, Travelodge and Compass Group. And since Fedcap began delivering the scheme last year, it has supported more than 1,300 people across the South Central area of England to successfully find new jobs.

Tan Dhesi MP said: “I’m delighted that Fedcap has opened an office in Slough and is already making very good progress in supporting people in the town find sustainable employment.

“It was interesting to learn how the Fedcap charity supports people’s health and wellbeing and works hard to remove their barriers to employment. It’s important that we don’t leave anybody behind in society, and that we build people’s confidence so that they can take what, for many, can be a transformational step back into the workforce.”

Susan Paterson, UK operations director at Fedcap Employment, said: “We’re delighted to have opened a new office in Slough, and are committed to giving people looking to return to work the time, space and support they need to find a job that’s right for them.

“Our trusted advisers get to know our customers and build up their skills, confidence and self-belief. Working with local employers and partners, the Slough team is already placing an average of one to two people per day into employment, and the signs are that we’re getting busier.”
