Windsor fail to raise side after COVID-19 cases

-

Windsor’s game at Sherborne on Saturday was called off at late notice – and the hosts awarded a home win – after an outbreak of COVID-19 in the Royals’ camp.

The visitors published their team sheet for the game on

Friday afternoon and would have hoped to respond to last weekend’s 80-7 home defeat by Oxford Harlequins, however, four of their players tested positive for the virus on Friday and the rest of the squad were also advised to take a test. It caps off a disappointing few weeks for Windsor with the side losing their last four matches in the South West 1 East, coughing up a combined total of 217 points in the process.

Their last victory came in January, in the home game with Frome and, although relegation isn’t a factor this season with a major restructure of the leagues in process for the summer, they have slipped to 11th in the table, just five points above second bottom Frome. Windsor were set to play their rearranged game at Marlborough this Saturday, although it’s currently not scheduled on the RFU website, while after that they have four more matches to try and finish off what’s been a challenging season on a high. Three of those matches are at home against Trowbridge, Witney, and Beaconsfield.

They've also had to deal with the loss of head coach Jack

Pattinson, due to competing commitments at London Irish.
